Bike Mechanic
Part Time (32 hours) · Monday–Thursday, 9 am–5 pm · Grand Rapids, MI
Upcycle Bikes is looking for a skilled bike mechanic who thrives on supporting others and is passionate about our mission. This role is the operational anchor of our shop — you'll refurbish donated bikes to a high standard while mentoring and training our volunteer community, helping put reliable, no-cost transportation within reach for riders across West Michigan.
- Year-round, not seasonal
- Mon–Thu, 9–5
- 2+ years wrenching preferred
- Teach as much as you turn
What you'll do
- Lead daily shop operations, supporting staff and volunteers
- Refurbish donated bikes with attention to safety, quality, and rider comfort
- Train and mentor volunteers, including safety inspections of their completed work
- Diagnose and repair across all of bike technology — drivetrains, brakes, wheels, bearings
- Keep the shop clean, organized, and welcoming
Who you are
- Able to perform complete tune-ups and repairs without supervision
- A patient teacher who's energized by a busy, team-oriented shop
- Genuinely excited about making cycling accessible to all
